Sanctification and Inspiration for Individual or Communal Pilgrimage
High & Silver Presents: The Pilgrim’s Progress, our flagship project, is designed to be profitable for individuals (via the paperback, the enhanced audio podcast, and the “Pilgrims Digress” discussions) or as a group study (Sunday school, small group, men’s group, etc.) via downloadable study guides.
We are currently running a beta group through the entire narrative, to improve our study guides and resources. Like the audio, the study guides will be available for free, licensed for personal, church, classroom, and small group use. (These will be housed on the Pilgrims Progress Group Study page.) John Bunyan was imprisoned for preaching the Gospel and holding “unlicensed” religious meetings. For these offenses, he spent years in Bedford Gaol (pronounced “jail”) at the corner of High Street and Silver Street in Bedford, England. There he wrote much of The Pilgrim’s Progress. When offered a shorter sentence if he would just agree to stop preaching, Bunyan famously said, ““If I were out of prison today, I would preach the gospel again tomorrow by the help of God.” He also vowed to stay in jail “till the moss shall grow on mine eyebrows” rather than compromise his faith.
While there are quite a few versions of The Pilgrim’s Progress out there that claim to be “modernized” or presented in “today’s English,” we have gone beyond a mere punch-up, re-telling the same story (and leaving nothing out), but with format/language/structure far more akin to a modern novel and tailor-made for an enhanced audio production…without going as far as a film or graphic novel, which generally slash content for length, often losing the heart of the epic.
As of now, we are still focusing on Season 2 of High & Silver Presents: The Pilgrim’s Progress, but we do intend to release High & Silver Presents: The Holy War (based on another of Bunyan’s classic allegories), a reimagining of Joseph Banvard’s classic Baptist epic Priscilla -or- Trials for Truth, a collection of significant historical documents for Baptists, and a series on Bunyan’s Grace Abounding to the Chief of Sinners.
The audio content of the podcast is, of course, free to listen to. The study guide materials are also provided free to use, under a Creative Commons license. (i.e. feel free to copy, print, drop onto your tablet, etc.). Paperbacks, hardcovers, and ebooks are available to buy for those who would rather read than listen.
